2024 Shelton Trails Marathon Challenge

Welcome to the 2024 Shelton Trails Marathon Challenge. It's another Olympic year, so our challenge is to complete a series of specific hikes totaling 26.2 miles (the length of a marathon). You have all year to complete the challenge.

Here's how to join the challenge:

1. Choose a challenge level:

Level 1: An easy to moderate collection of walks suitable for beginners. Some hikes are one-way, so you may wish to spot a car at the end of the hike (Rec Path, Paugussett Trail at Shelton Lakes).

Level 2:  These hikes include more challenging or lesser-used routes, wilder, with more hills and trickier footing. Several hikes take place along the scenic Housatonic River bluff trails (Paugussett, Birchbank, Woodsend, Tahmore). You need to use your hands in one spot.  All hikes bring you back to your car. This level is designed for people with a bit of hiking experience.

2. Download the tracking form for the level you've chosen:

3. Complete the hikes in any order you like by the end of the year. No need to complete a designated hike in one day if it's too long!

Be sure to check the hike maps and descriptions so that you’re walking the correct route. Updates and trail conditions will be listed online via the Shelton Trails blog (sheltonconservation.org/trails).

4. Optional: We encourage participants to share at least one photo of their adventures with us. (We may post photos to social media.) Email photos to conservation@cityofshelton.org. You can also share your adventures via the Shelton Trails Events & News Facebook Group.

4. Submit your completed form to: Teresa Gallagher, Conservation Department, City Hall, 54 Hill Street Shelton, CT 06484. Forms can also be emailed to conservation@cityofshelton.org, or dropped off in Teresa's office Room 102. We will accept forms up through the end of the year. Be sure to include your mailing address so we may send you an award prize.
