Volunteers Needed!

The hiking trails in Shelton were created and are maintained by volunteers.  Please help us! There are many ways to do so:

1. Attend a work party
Work Parties are held the 2nd and 4th Saturday morning of the month, year round unless there is deep snow. Work parties are announced on this blog under the events tab (right margin) and by an email list maintained by Lynn Reid. Just send her an email asking to be added to the list. The work parties start some time between 8:00 and 9:00 depending on the season (early starts in the summer).

2. Adopt a trail
This is an informal thing.  If you have a favorite trail, prune back branches that are growing into the trail and pick up litter as necessary.  Report any blowdowns, maintainance issues, or ATVs to the Trails Committee or staff (Teresa Gallagher, conservation@cityofshelton.org).

3. Plan an independent project
Eagle Scout projects are a great example of an independent project.  Scouts work with the Trails Committee to determine what needs to be done and obtain permission to do so. Kiosks and bridges are common examples.  Drainage projects will needed more as our trails become eroded due to use.
