Nosey Hawk

As I was enjoying the fine weather Saturday, catching up on my reading, this red-shouldered hawk was peering over MY shoulder.

He soon lost interest in my magazine, though, when he spotted a new chick in a neighboring tree. I think they're in love!

Tree House

I have a new neighbor. It appeared to be snowing sawdust and woodchips under this tree, then I heard the rat-tat-tat of construction going on. Finally, a head appeared, attached to a Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Be Respectful

Right near the newly cleared section of the Riverview Trail is a memorial to a beloved departed pet, "Scrappy". Please be respectful and avoid disturbing this site.

Section of fence was removed to facilitate access, end of fallen tree blocking trail was removed, and briers, vines and weeds were cleared from behind fence. Hikers can now proceed on improved trail without interfering with ballfield activities.

Riverview Trail Work

The trail section behind the ball field at Riverview Park was impassable due to overgrowth, forcing hikers to cut across the outfield, even during games.

Paugussett Trail Extension North to Independence Drive

One of the Shelton Trails Committee's major goals for 2009 is to restore the Paugussett Trail from Indian Well State Park to Stratford. This is the view South along the powerlines from Independence Drive toward Route 108. This portion of the route contains scenic views, open grasslands, a vernal pool, beautiful shrubs, and some really gnarly briars that need to be whacked. We are awaiting a go- ahead from the Mayor and Aldermen to extend the trail out though the Wiecek Open Space and Mayflower Lane down to the State Park.
